Atlas of Radiological Images http://atlas.mudr.org Newcomers Cholecystostomy, acute cholecystitis http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Cholecystostomy-acute-cholecystitis-1790 CT shows percutaneous insertion of a pig-tail catheter (trocar techique) into the lumen of gallbladder, which has an inflammatory thickened wall with edema of surrounding fat. (5 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Cholecystostomy-acute-cholecystitis Chondrohamartoma of lung, ground-glass http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Chondrohamartoma-of-lung-ground-glass-1789 Plain chest radiograph shows a well-defined opacity in the left lower lung field. CT confirmed a well-defined nodule in the periphery of the left lower lung lobe most likely consistent with chondrohamartoma. Note also almost diffuse ground-glass opacities in centrilobular location - an unspecific finding. (7 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Chondrohamartoma-of-lung-ground-glass Merkel cell carcinoma, recurrence http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Merkel-cell-carcinoma-recurrence-1788 CT shows tumorous infiltrates on the left side of forehead around the area that was treated surgically. (5 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Merkel-cell-carcinoma-recurrence Carcinoma of sigmoid colon, metastasis in liver http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Carcinoma-of-sigmoid-colon-metastasis-in-liver-1787 CT shows multiple liver metastases with a typical appearance of hypodense center surrounded by hyperdense rim. CT also confirmed tumorous thickening of sigmoid colon. Initially, the ultrasound image of hypoechoic lesions in the liver parenchyma was mistaken for liver cysts and segmental thickening of sigmoid colon for diverticulitis. Liver metastases may appear on ultrasound almost anechoic and therefore mimic cysts, if the liver is steatotic as was in this case. (14 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Carcinoma-of-sigmoid-colon-metastasis-in-liver Bronchopneumonia, biopsy, recurrence http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Bronchopneumonia-biopsy-recurrence-1786 Plain radiographs show infiltrative shadows in both lung wings. Subsequent CT shows airspace consolidation consistent with acute bronchopneumonia, which was confirmed by a biopsy requested by the physician. Follow-up CT shows regression of bronchopneumonia infiltrates leaving a small area of fibrous changes. Unfortunately, next CT showed recurrence of bronchopneumonia. (16 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Bronchopneumonia-biopsy-recurrence Diaphragmatic hernia, Morgagni hernia http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Diaphragmatic-hernia-Morgagni-hernia-1785 Plain chest radiographs shows marked elevation of the left hemidiaphragm. CT shows, that it is caused by a right-sided diaphragmatic hernia which contains right liver lobe, gallbladder with gallstones, and large bowel. It causes compressive changes of the right lowe lung lobe. This hernia was treated surgically with a good result which can be appreciated on the last two CT images. (12 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Diaphragmatic-hernia-Morgagni-hernia Angiomyolipoma of kidney, atypical http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Angiomyolipoma-of-kidney-atypical-1784 CT shows a small tumour arising from the left cortex of the left kidney. It has somewhat increased density. Ultrasound showed that the nodule has increased echogenicity and is homogeneous and well-defined. MRI study concluded, that a presence of atypical angiomyolipoma (with limited fat content) is more likely. (12 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Angiomyolipoma-of-kidney-atypical Angiomyolipoma of kidney, renal angiomyolipoma http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Angiomyolipoma-of-kidney-renal-angiomyolipoma-1783 Ultrasound shows two well-defined hyperechoic foci in the left kidney that represent renal angiomyolipomas. (3 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Angiomyolipoma-of-kidney-renal-angiomyolipoma Adenocarcinoma of gallbladder, fistula to colon http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Adenocarcinoma-of-gallbladder-fistula-to-colon-1782 CT and MRI show tumorous thickening of gallbladder wall, which contains intraluminal air. The gallbladder tumour infiltrates the hepatic flexure, both structures are connected by a fistula. (12 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Adenocarcinoma-of-gallbladder-fistula-to-colon Arachnoid cyst, frontal lobe http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Arachnoid-cyst-frontal-lobe-1781 CT shows a round formation of water density between the cortex of the left frontal lobe and the skull, which is thinned due to compression by the cyst. (7 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Arachnoid-cyst-frontal-lobe Aorto-mesenteric compression http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Aorto-mesenteric-compression-1780 CT enterography shows abundant fluid in duodenum orally to the segment, where it crosses the narrowed space between aorta and superior mesenteric artery. (5 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Aorto-mesenteric-compression Acute pancreatitis, mediastinitis http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Acute-pancreatitis-mediastinitis-1779 CT shows inflammatory edema of mediastinal fat which extends from the abdomen. The cause is acute exudative pancreatitis. Note also bilateral pleural effusion and compressive changes of adjacent lung parenchyma. (11 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Acute-pancreatitis-mediastinitis Bone island, metacarpal bone http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Bone-island-metacarpal-bone-1778 Plain radiograph shows an oval opacity in the base of the third metatarsal bone, which represents a bony island. (2 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Bone-island-metacarpal-bone Hip fracture, pertrochanteric fracture of femur, healed in dislocation http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Hip-fracture-pertrochanteric-fracture-of-femur-healed-in-dislocation-1777 The radiograph shows a pertrochanteric fracture of the left hip that healed in dislocation - namely shortening. Moreover, there is a cluster of popcorn-like calcifications most likely in a uterine fibroma. (2 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Hip-fracture-pertrochanteric-fracture-of-femur-healed-in-dislocation Varices in groin, inguinal canal http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Varices-in-groin-inguinal-canal-1776 Ultrasound shows a hypoechoic mass that consits of vascular structures as seen on power doppler. (4 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Varices-in-groin-inguinal-canal Banana in rectum http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Banana-in-rectum-1775 Ultrasound image shows a hypoechoic oval formation in the axial section with internal echostructure in the rectum. (5 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Banana-in-rectum Deviation of trachea http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Deviation-of-trachea-1774 Chest radiograph shows significant deviation of trachea at the level of the upper thoracic aperture. (2 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Deviation-of-trachea Cardiac tamponade, mediastinal hematoma, dissection of truncus brachiocephalicus http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Cardiac-tamponade-mediastinal-hematoma-dissection-of-truncus-brachiocephalicus-1773 CT shows a large mediastinal hematoma with active leakage of contrast from the brachiocephalic trunk, which was accidentally penetrated during introduction of central venous catheter. Note also large amount of blood in the pericardial sac. (5 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Cardiac-tamponade-mediastinal-hematoma-dissection-of-truncus-brachiocephalicus Acute parotitis http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Acute-parotitis-1772 Ultrasound shows increased vascularity of parotid gland and edema of interlobular septa, which became hypoechoic and thickened. (4 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Acute-parotitis Acute enteritis, enteritis, edema of the valvulae conniventes http://atlas.mudr.org/Case-images-Acute-enteritis-enteritis-edema-of-the-valvulae-conniventes-1771 Ultrasound shows increased amount of fluid in the lumen of jejunal loops and edematous folds of valvulae conniventes (Kerckring folds). (11 img) http://atlas.mudr.org/RSS/Acute-enteritis-enteritis-edema-of-the-valvulae-conniventes
