Atypical pneumonia, subacute stage, lung fibrosis

CASE

In subacute stage of atypical pneumonia (Pneumocystis carinii), an image almost indistinguishable from fibrosis may develop. This patient developed bilateral pleural effusion, extensive areas of septal thickening and distortion of parechymal architecture with bronchiectasis.
