Gluteus minimus, gluteus medius, shadow of muscle

CASE

An band of decreased transparency lateral to the acetabular roof of the right hip joint represents the gluteus minimus muscle. The gluteus medius muscle is lateral to it. Outlines of gluteal muscles may cause confusion and may be missinterpreted as a soft tissue mass.
