Ileus, small bowel obstruction, SBO

CASE

Plain radiograph shows multiple air-fluid levels and dilated bowel loops in the upper half of the abdomen. There are no air-fluid levels visible in the lower part of the abdomen, because these loops are entirely filled and dilated with fluid. This makes them amenable to ultrasound examination.
