Intraperitoneal hemorrhage, mimic of carcinosis, subcapsular hematoma of the liver

CASE

This postoperative CT was request for persisting abdominal pain in a patient after resection of a small bowel carcinoma. It shows a small subcapsular hematoma in the right liver lobe with fluid of higher density next to it indicating hemorrhage into the peritoneal cavity. Stranding of the mesentery was initially interpreted as possible carcinosis. However, there was no indication of carcinosis during surgical reexploration and the finding disappeared on the follow-up CT (not shown).
