Meteorism, distention of colon, reflex distention, vertebrogenic pain syndrome, compression fracture of vertebra

CASE

Plain abdominal radiograph shows abnormal distention of the entire colon without a presence of fluid-levels. Subsequent CT showed no visceral abnormality responsible for this finding. Note the presence of degenerative changes of the lumbar spine with old compression fracture of the first lumbar vertebra. The distention of colon was reflexive due to acute vertebrogenic pain syndrome.
