Stab wound of the thorax, perforation of the ascending aorta, bleeding into mediastinum, hemothorax

CASE

This patient sustained a stab wound. The knife entered the thorax on the left side next to the sternum, caused a minor injury to the lung, but it hit the ascending aorta causing a major hemorrhage into the mediastinum and the left pleural cavity. The CT shows active bleeding with opacified blood leaking from the ascending aorta into the mediastinum.
